This coming weekend we’re going to be talking about the confidence that we have as a consequence of our Leader’s (i.e. Jesus) promise to return.
The big question I have is, “Why do we get dorky when we talk about the second coming?” Why do we pull out charts, maps, and use big words to describe such a straightforward promise? It’s kind of like putting mud on a beautiful picture!
Because some have gotten silly when talking about this awesome promise we have a tendency to react and virtually neglect this pivotal point in our Leader’s teaching!
I can’t get past these four points:
1) Jesus will return
2) We can’t possibly know when He will return
3) We must stay ready for His return
4) This promise should be the catalyst for confidence in those who are living for Him
What do you think about when you hear someone refer to “The second coming?”
Peace out…
I feel like when people teach on the second coming they whip out their favorite pie chart or “tribulation time-line” to try to convince people they know exactly what is going to happen. The truth is as you stated that Jesus is going to come and get his kids and it can happen at any time. I feel like we scare people away from faith when we start acting like characters from middle earth. I think that Jesus’ words in Matthew 24 that no one knows the day except the father and that we as his followers should be alert is crucial to our message. People are going to go to hell if they don’t meet Jesus before he comes back, thats the reality of his second coming. May that be the thought we wrestle with as we seek to know him more.
I think that the second coming is one of the most important facets of our relationship with God. Because God loves us, I don’t believe that he will send his Son to return until we are all ready.
As long as it takes….. not….. until…. ALL… are…
R-E-A-D-Y.
Am *I* ready? Are you ready?
We must be ready. When we are all prepared, then He will come.
Perhaps my interpretation is “dorky,” however, if you enter the field of logic and look at this with the “filter of logic,” this does make sense.
Why would the Lord bless us with such a wonderful gift if he didn’t feel we were ready?
There’s my two cents…..
