What we’re learning

It’s early Tuesday morning and we’re already getting positive feedback on the sermon series – Just Walk Across the Room! I am really pumped about this series! Imagine what is going to happen when hundreds of believers start walking across the room to begin a conversation that will at some point be used by God to bring his “Cherished missing” back to Himself! I am praying for and believing that this year at Northgate we are going to see hundreds of new people come to Jesus! Man… that’s awesome!

I’m also pretty excited about our next two sermons series!

In March we are doing a series, highlighting several of the Old Testament Prophets, called, “Struggling With God.” Here’s the Prophet (i.e. book of the Bible) and the big idea (in unedited form) that we are going to be working through in this four week series…

  • Habakkuk - I struggle with God when He uses bad people to do His good work
  • Jonah - I struggle with God when He calls me to do something I don’t want to do
  • Lamentations - I struggle with God when I do everything He wants me to do and my life still falls apart
  • Hosea - I struggle with God when He lets me suffer so that He can teach others

In April we are starting a series called “Shattered… He’s Not Who You Thought He Was.”
In this series we are going to “shatter” some old ways of thinking about Jesus! At this point, our plan for this four week series is to look at four uncommon themes of Jesus’ life…

  • He was rebellious
  • He was relentless
  • He was relevant
  • He was receptive

I’m really looking forward to exploring these themes! Please join us in prayer that God will use these teachings to show people a new side of Himself!

  1. I can’t wait to hear these different sermon series. I’ll be looking forward to them!

  2. We are just about to do the curriculum with our church staff on this book or alternatively Becoming a COntagious Christian – after all, its not about us but those who we see everyday.

  3. I can’t wait to hear the sermon series on the prophets; Habakkuk is one of my favorite books in the Bible! In order for us (as believers) to truly understand the ups and downs of life, we first need to accept that God never promised a life without pain and in fact some of His greatest followers were subject to the same, if not worse pain, than we normally endure. Can’t wait!

  4. I’m going to be starting a similar series of sermons in the Spring. I may pick your brain…

  5. Hey Julian!

    Both books are great reads!

“Contagious Christian” gives a formula and maybe more “How to” whereas “Just Walk Across the Room” gives some “How to’s” but also seems to focus on some “larger principle” kind-of-stuff!

I read Contagious Christian first and found it to be a great starting point. There are points in “Just Walk Across the Room” where Hybels alludes to the material in “Contagious Christian.”

God bless you as you seek to expand His Kingdom!
    Peace!

    Paul
