Yup--have definitely had a few 'that day' experiences. Then the questions--'Why?', 'What if...?', 'Now what?' Yes, life perspective changed at those moments, but just as important, revisiting those times continues to affect & influence.

As I've been working w elderly patients, I see every day their 'that day' moments & it really brings reality home each & every day...

Paul,
I don't know whay this didn't hit me before, but I wonder how many of us have "that days" that we wish we HAD died. Days of hurt so deep that they too become days of marking time. But they are pains and wounds that affect the way that we see the rest of the world. Divorce, loss of loved ones, abortions, depressions so deep... Wow. The wheels up, the dust settling, another wrecked life.... and sometimes we drive by, ala the pharisee and the levite instead of waving our light to redirect traffic like the samaritan. Hmm.. Give me your eyes...

I had a similar experience, memorial day weekend this year ('09) 2 am or so on my way home from work I notice a car in the middle of the median grass with its lights on, since there isn't much help around at 2 am I stop, back up, and park.
as soon as I got out of the car I knew something was wrong, as music was blasting from the car in the grass, if you are in a crash you would kill the radio first. Since I am an airplane mechanic I always carry a flashlight on my belt, I shined it across the highway to the other side and saw a body lying in the road!
As I ran across the median grass I realized my cell phone was in the car! I got to the man in the road just as some cars came so I waved my light at them to keep them off of him. As soon as they passed, I ran back and called 911, after a few min (seemed like hrs) other cars stopped and helped me keep the traffic away. Then the man came around and started wheezing like he had had his wind knocked out. A passing LNA had to wrestle with him to keep him from standing
