A few things that stuck out to me as I read this morning…
- I read the book of Philemon this morning. One phrase that grabbed my attention was verses 4-5, “I always thank God when I pray for you, Philemon, because I keep hearing of your trust in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God’s people.” This phrase rang a bell for me… I’ve heard this before. I went back through Paul’s writings and found that he celebrates these two characteristics (faith and love) more than any other set of characteristics! Paul boils it down to two biggies:
- Love Jesus
- Love others
- That kind of sounds like what Jesus said… “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. All the other commandments and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37-40 NLT)
The Five Love Languages of Children – Gary Chapman and Ross Campbell
- “The best gift you can give your child is your own emotional, physical, spiritual, and intellectual health.”
- You know what… this takes time! Parents, if you’re not taking time for yourself to pray, read, exercise, enjoy other adult company, etc. you will not be as effective a parent as you can be. The best gift you can give your child is a fully functional self and that takes time!
