I can think of a lot of reasons why God shouldn’t use me. Quite frankly, I can think of more than a few reasons why it would seem He couldn’t use me! I’ll bet you can think of a few too (not about me… about you!)
Reading this morning in the Bible, I ran into a couple of people who had the same “God can’t use me” issue, Abraham and Sarah. This couple had some BIG reasons why God couldn’t/shouldn’t use them and yet they discovered the secret becoming “usable.”
It was by faith that Sarah together with Abraham was able to have a child, even though they were too old and Sarah was barren. Abraham believed that God would keep his promise. And so a whole nation came from this one man, Abraham, who was too old to have any children — a nation with so many people that, like the stars of the sky and the sand on the seashore, there is no way to count them. (Hebrews 11:11-12 NLT)
There’s one line in here that sticks out to me – “Even though.”
You and me, we’ve got plenty of “Even though’s” in our lives! There are a ton of reasons that God “could not” or “should not” use you or me, but the crazy thing is that when we trust Him, He trumps those “even though’s” and uses common people to do uncommon things!
What are your “Even though’s”? What are the reasons you think that God cannot or should not use you to do anything of significance for Him?
How about if today we stop focusing on the “even though’s” and begin believing and seeking to live out these words from St. Paul,
“We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10 NLT)
Thank you Jesus, that You choose me, even though.
Paul- your “Even Though” blog got me to thinking…here’s some “Even Thoughs” I came up with….
Even though it’s impossible to be dead 3 days and yet come back, Christ did it!
Even though it’s impossible to be blind and yet see- Blind Bartimaeus did!
Even though it’s crazy to think of water magically turning into wine- Christ did it!
Even though a horrible disease of leprosy was deemed incurable and Naaman sentenced to a life of pain and misery–he was healed by plain ordinary muddy water!
Even though Abraham and Sarah were not only too old to have kids, but her body unable to produce- Isaac was born!
Even though the poor widow’s son dies, thru God’s power, Elijah raised him back to life!
Even though it’s impossible to be dead, yet alive in Heaven with Christ- they are!
Even though the plain, simple woman in the crowd had suffered from an incurable bleeding, the moment she touched Christ, she was healed!
Even though there’s no physical way a person can be rid of demons- thru Christ’s Powerful Blood–people are!
Even though it’s impossible for human bodies to “fly” on their own…someday we will rise to meet Him!!
Even though it’s preposterous for a young boy with three SMOOTH stones to kill a giant of a man just by hitting his forehead- It happened!
Even though in Bible days, women were to be lower then men, Jesus chose Mary Magdalene, a former prostitute, her life taken over by demons-cleaned
her up and allowed her to minister to him as one of his many disciples (I’m sure there was much controversy over his decision!)
Even though there are skeptics, atheists, doubting Thomases in this world, we know Christ is alive and working in our lives!
Even though, we all agree, it’s impossible for a virgin woman to give birth…Mary did!
Even though we were sinners, He loved us!
Even though we are tempted to stray, tempted to leave our First Love, tempted to give up…we’re still His kids!
Even though it’s impossible for a minute cell to become a human- Babies are born every minute, every day!
Even though we are wrung dry spiritually and can’t take another step- He’s there, has always been…!
Even though the trials that come our way seem to overwhelm us, He’s a ready help in times of trouble and we can relax-it’s in His hands
Even though our world seems to get darker, bleaker, scarier by the second- we have Someone to trust our future with (the world doesn’t)
Even though you are the wickedest, vilest, most despicable person you would never want to meet- let alone be…there’s hope for YOU! John 3:16
