The word “encourage” is a combination of the pre-fix “en” (to put into), and the noun “courage”. Literally it means to put courage into.
“Courage” is the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear; bravery. It also means to have the courage of one’s convictions, to act in accordance with one’s beliefs, esp. in spite of criticism. (dictionary.com)
To be an encourager is simply to enable others to live with strength and passion in this world. It is to help others face with determination and optimism the challenges they face. It is to help others believe and experience what they may not otherwise experience.
There are plenty of discouragers (events, people, world-views, etc.) in this world.
You change that. You be an encourager. You breathe hope and life into someone today. You tell them they CAN when others say they can’t. You express confidence when others express fear. You be the voice of the prophet saying “I see hope” when others are saying, “I see defeat.”
You be an encourager… breathe courage into someone today and change their life!
