She came to me. I wrapped my arms around her and said, “I love you!”
She looked at me and said, “That’s it?”
At first I kind of chuckled, but then I realized something and spoke it to her…
“Baby, that’s everything.”
At seven years old she cannot understand what the love of her father means.
It means that I will do anything and everything in my power to assure her safety and success. I will withhold no good from her and will provide her with every opportunity to learn, grow, and ultimately become a strong, competent lady with a promising future! But she doesn’t know that now. Right now “I love you” are just three words she hears a lot.
As I reflected on that I thought of my Father in Heaven (God).
He has said multiple times “I love you” and has convincingly demonstrated that love through the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ.
I’m confident of this, I have many times acted towards God as if “that’s it?”
At least for today as I feel the responsibility of love, especially the love of a parent, I am looking towards heaven and saying, “Thank you Father for loving me! That’s EVERYTHING!”
