You may have noticed a trend here. I keep quoting and referring to Don Shula.
I just finished a book that he co-authored with Ken Blanchard, Everyone’s A Coach, and I have to write this goodness down… so I thought I’d share it with you too!
Shula had an amazing grasp of the details of football! In fact more than one referee recalls being nervous when calling games in which Shula was coaching because he (Shula) new the rules so well… often even better than the refs themselves!
Why?
He paid close attention to detail!
Comedian Dave Barry once described his nightmare scenario like this…
You’re in the express checkout line, limit ten items. You have eleven items. Running the cash register is Don Shula.
No detail missed his gaze.
Maybe that’s why he’s the only NFL coach ever to have an undefeated season.
He was also on the rules committee from what I can remember so that helps as well…..
Mick! Just another way of paying attention to detail!
