One of my daily disciplines is reading the Bible.
I do this not because I am good, but because I am bent towards being bad! I need daily input from God… after all, He’s good and wise… two things I need and want in my life!
So I read the Bible daily. Now here’s the problem with that – if I’m not careful it quickly becomes a pointless ritual that I rush through and get nothing from.
So, I’m going to experiment for a while with blogging at least one takeaway from my Bible reading. I expect to do this on the weekdays for a while and we’ll see how it goes. This is for me and might even prove helpful for you too! So here goes…
Right now I am reading through the New Testament in 60 days ( Here’s the plan I’m using – C180 60 Day Reading Plan 3). Today I read Hebrews 7-13.
My takeaway from today comes from Hebrews 12:1-2.
After telling the stories of people who had incredible stories of faith, the author of Hebrews said to the rest of us…
“…since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.”
Takeaways…
There is a sin that trips me up. What is it? (You can fill in your own blank here).
The key to endurance is focus. Where is my focus? Who are my teachers? Who inspires me?
Today I want to be intentional about pushing back on the sin that trips me up and I want to ask this question a lot today, “How would Jesus do this?”
