Men need permission

At some point in the future I am going to do a teaching series on being a man.

In preparation for this teaching series I have looked again to John Eldridge’s book, Wild at Heart.

Eldridge’s opening line in this book has struck a chord with me, “We need permission. Permission to be what we are – men made in the image of God. Permission to live from the heart and not from the list of ‘should’ and ‘ought to’ that has left so many of us tired and bored.”

That’s rich!

  1. Hey brother, just wandered in to your blog. See you are about to do a series on Wild at Heart and that you are a church planter.

I love all church planters and support them anyway I can. On wild at Heart. I found some of what he said to be brilliant, some to be wonderfully thought provoking, and some to be a mess theologically. Love some of his observations about the difference between guys and gals and the freedom of his approach. Like the idea of trying to ground what he observes in some way to the nature and character of God. But I also thought that the way that he does it “men are risky therefore, God is risky” to be problematic.

Anyway, my two cents. Blessings on all your church planting efforts for the King.
